OOOOk-lahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain,

Today was Oklahoma Land Run Day at E and B's elementary school. The weather, I imagine, was exactly what the people of their time had to endure ... super windy and overcast!

The land run started at high noon on April 22, 1889, with an estimated 50,000 people lined up for their piece of the available two million acres (8,000 km²). A number of the individuals who participated in the run entered early and hid out until the legal time of entry to lay quick claim to some of the most choice homesteads. These people came to be identified as "sooners." ** Source, Wikpedia. (Dirty rotten scoundrels ... were then, are now! ... boo Sooners!! Go Cowboys!)

E was in a family with a dad, mom, brother and sister. At the "go" sound, the dads took off running to claim their land {or in this case, the place where they would eat lunch}. When they got there they signaled to their wives to bring the family! And off they ran!

This little boy got separated from his family and was searching amongst the groups trying to figure out where he was supposed to eat lunch. I wonder how much that really happened back in the day.

They all sat down and ate their lunch together as a family.

Then they played games, got their faces painted and had pop ices.

I left then to take B to school, but I heard they churned butter after I left.

What a fun day!

What I thought was funny were all of the kids (and parents) dressed in OU Sooner clothes, instead of period clothes. They proudly wore their crimson and cream. But, don't they know that being a Sooner was not a compliment, but an insult! They were being called cheaters! Just a thought.
